The 319th Field Artillery, an element of the 82d Division, (later redesignated as the 82d Airborne Division) was ordered into active military service March 25, 1942 and reorganized at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.

They would later move to Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a direct support B-Battery of the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery.
