Bill - Thanks for sharing this! My dad was Oliver Dempsey McLemore, Pvt. 1st class 82nd Airborne Division who jumped on D-Day into  the very area you described in this article! 

He was captured 5 days later in the basement of a French Church basement. He was transported to a concentration camp in Dresden, Germany. He was liberated 11 months later in 1945.
